Penti is a Turkey-based company and retail chain specializing in women’s hosiery and lingerie. Its origins date back to 1952, when brothers Mois and Yasef Kariyo founded a nylon stocking company in Turkey, during the period when nylon stockings were gaining global popularity. In 1970, the brand was named Ogretmen Corap due to the widespread use of thin women’s stockings by teachers at the time. The first production facility was established in Bayrampasa, Istanbul, in 1971. During the 1980s, Sami Kariyo, a second-generation member of the Kariyo family, assumed management of the company, expanded the focus to urban women and in 1984 the brand was renamed Penti.
Over time, Penti expanded its product range to include women’s hosiery, children’s and men’s socks, loungewear, lingerie, bikinis, swimwear and beachwear. In 1994, the Öğretmen Çorap Factory was established in Çorlu. The first franchise of the Penti retail chain opened in Istanbul in 1999, followed by the launch of the penti.com e-commerce website in 2007.
Penti was listed among Turkey’s top 1,000 industrial enterprises in 2006. In 2012, the company partnered with The Carlyle Group and in 2013 renewed its logo and corporate color. Today, Penti operates more than 417 stores across 75 provinces in Turkey and 182 stores in 34 countries abroad
